Who is terrified of their kids getting sick and being sent home? Because, if I'm being honest, I love Scout but one, we have spent more than enough time together recently and two, I have two months of work to catch up on. Last night she came home from her nana's and her nose was sounding sniffly (it's likely to be the cow's milk and white bread; she convinced her nana to let her have, but it was enough to send me into a tail-spin of keeping her home, how would I work this week etc.). I thought I'd share with you what I did, just in case you find yourself in a similar predicament (of course, if they are sick please keep them home!):
STRAIGHT AWAY:
1X vitamin C chewables (Cenovis 250mg, from the super market, super cheap and tasty)- and then every three-four hours
BEFORE BED:
- Honey (tea tree, eucalyptus and Manuka are great choices), lemon, rosemary and star anise tea- hot water 1 tsp of honey, juice of 1/4 lemon, pinch of rosemary and 2 star anise.
- Hot shower (as hot as she can handle it) with our breath oil blend splashed on the shower wall and then in the diffuser over night.
IN THE MORNING:
Bone broth with rice, seaweed salt and loads of garlic for breakfast. (I had left over rice, but vermicelli rice noodles that cook instantly are also a staple in our house).
AVOID THE FOLLOWING FOODS FOR A FEW DAYS- dairy (especially hard cheeses), eggs, wheat, refined sugars and nuts.
THINK COOKED FOODS:
Stews, soups and rice dishes are perfect for your immune system. Use herbs and spices like cinnamon, thyme, rosemary, ginger, garlic, black pepper, star anise, cloves, cardamom, coriander, chilli, turmeric and fennel.
KEEP THEM WARM!
Make sure they are rugged up, a beanie, thermals, a scarf if you can convince them to wear one. Even for bed, keep them warm an extra layer or two; it might even keep them asleep longer too ;).
Good Luck,
X Catie
